Global Trade Idea: Coca-Cola Company (KO US, COETNQ, COETNC) - BUY

By Peet Serfontein & Khumbulani Kunene

We enter a long position with a target price of $80.00 and a stop-loss of $67.00

The Coca-Cola Company is the largest non-alcoholic beverage product owner and one of the most recognisable consumer brands in the world

The company is home to numerous beverage brands, including five of the world's top six non-alcoholic sparkling soft drink brands: Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, and Diet Coke/Coca-Cola Light. Its portfolio also includes certain water brands, juices, coffees and teas, and energy drinks. The company reaches consumers in more than 200 countries.

Technically, an upward-sloping expected price path across all forecast horizons, and upside outcomes dominating the confidence bands, signals a potential investment opportunity for the stock (see the insert on the main chart). This pattern highlights an AI forecasting model that applies a Gradient Boosting framework to seven years of adjusted price data, incorporating trend, momentum, volatility and cycle-based technical features to project probabilistic price paths with 80% confidence bands.

A developing pattern of higher highs and higher lows with consistently low volatility also supports a bullish case for the stock (see notation on the main chart). This structure indicates sustained buying interest and disciplined accumulation, supporting a bullish stance. Demand stepping in on pullbacks has progressively lifted both support and resistance levels, underpinning the uptrend

Upside price momentum according to the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD), and the recent upward trajectory of the on-balance volume (OBV) indicator, also supports our bullish view.

This trade can also be mirrored utilising the JSE listed FNB ETN COETNQ (without currency exposure) and COETNC (with currency exposure).

Buy/Sell Rationale:

Technical Analysis:

    • The lower panel shows occurrences of the Three Outside Up Japanese candlestick pattern. A reading of one indicates when such a pattern occurred. This pattern is a classic bullish reversal signal. The three-candle formation begins with a bearish candle, followed by a larger bullish second candle that fully engulfs the first, and a third bullish candle that confirms the reversal with a higher close (see the insert). This reflects a clear shift in sentiment from bearish to bullish.
    • Our recommended entry range is $69.00 to $72.00, or as close as possible to $71.24 - a drop below this range would indicate a substantial change in price dynamics, giving reason to negate the trade idea.
    • Our target price is $80, representing ~12.3% upside from current levels.
    • According to forward calculations of the Relative Strength Index indicator, the share will be overbought at $90.00, making our profit target realistic.
    • Our proposed time to exit is mid-April 2026, but investors can adjust for a longer or shorter time horizon, depending on price behaviour.
    • A drop below $67.00, or 6.0% below current levels, would suggest weakening technicals, and a stop-loss is recommended at this level.
    • We expect moderate price fluctuations and suggest a medium at-risk allocation for this trade. Increase exposure for a break above $72.00.

Long term fundamental view:

    • Coca-Cola operates through six segments (mostly geographical based), including North America, Bottling Investments, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Global Ventures.
    • The group is well-diversified geographically and has a footprint spanning across over 200 countries, with North America accounting for nearly 40% of sales.
    • In the US, the company benefits from extensive distribution networks, strong brand loyalty and resilient consumer demand, which underpins stable cash flows and consistent dividend payments.
    • Coca-Cola continues to dominate the market with its industry leading distribution capability. This includes both company-owned and independently-operated bottling partners, wholesalers, and retailers.
    • Coca-Cola is set to have a leadership restructure, with current COO, Henrique Braun, earmarked to step in the role of CEO as of 31 March 2026.
    • The group has undergone a significant transformation over the past few of years, underpinned by investment into key brands and non-carbonated categories, new acquisitions and the consolidating/divesting of bottling assets globally.
    • Management remains focused on implementing its growth strategy but continues to navigate ongoing economic uncertainties across its different markets.
    • From a risk perspective, the group remains exposed to macroeconomic headwinds particularly with currency volatility as well as high inflation and input costs, while a shifting consumer preference amid a growing health and wellness awareness could require management to swiftly pivot its product offering.

A developing broadening-bottom pattern in the price remains of interest. Remains above its 200-day simple moving average. Fading downside price momentum is supportive. Our profit target is $98.00 with a trailing stop-loss at $74.00. A developing inclining channel pattern remains of interest. Remains just above its 200-day simple moving average. Upside price momentum has halted, which is a concern. Our profit target is $6 200.00 with a trailing stop-loss at $4 800.00.
