FNB Classic Clashes was a concept that was developed in 2001. FNB Classic Clashes falls within the annual school rugby calendar year. The idea was to support school sports matches and in turn giving schools the opportunity to promote themselves. By supporting these matches, schools are able to provide a day filled with entertainment for teachers, learners and lastly the community attending.
FNB will be launching its 19th edition of the FNB Classic Clashes in 2019. FNB Classic Clashes is just one of platforms that FNB provide for the youth to showcase their talents at school level. FNB Classic Clashes consists of two sporting codes at school level namely rugby and netball.
The FNB Classic Clashes allow players and learners to progress to university level where FNB also opens the opportunity to be part of the FNB Varsity Cup, Varsity Netball as well as Varsity sevens. FNB's continued support and investment shows their desire to empower and advocate a healthy lifestyle among the youth.
FNB Classic Clashes represent a derby between two schools with intense rivalry that goes back decades. FNB Classic Clashes also looks at bringing communities together through sport. 2018 saw a total of 47 Rugby FNB Classic Clashes and 21 Netball FNB Classic Clashes consisting of 93 schools participating in the FNB Classic Clashes season. FNB Classic Clashes reach out to a number of provinces in South Africa namely Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Kwazulu-Natal and Free State.
The sponsorship also reaches out to rural areas where rugby has become one of the main attractions at these schools. FNB Classic Clashes has given school sport a whole new meaning, and the sponsorship hopes to inspire a new generation of stars to keep South Africa entertained for years to come.
