The 2026 Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) provides a credible continuation of this administration's fiscal consolidation, with government now shifting from stabilising debt to gradually reducing it. Stronger-than-expected revenue collection, a rising primary surplus and continued expenditure restraint have improved the fiscal trajectory, despite a more challenging global environment.
