Global Trade Idea - Stryker Corporation (SYK US) - BUY

By Peet Serfontein & Sithembile Bopela

We re-enter a long position with a target price of $371.00 and a stop-loss of $290.00 (reward/risk ratio: 2.9:1).

Stryker Corporation develops develops, manufactures and markets a broad range of medical devices, equipment and digital healthcare solutions used by hospitals, surgical centres and healthcare professionals.

Stryker serves customers worldwide and impacts more than 150 million patients annually. Fundamentally, the company has built a reputation for consistent product innovation, strategic acquisitions and strong relationships with healthcare providers, making it one of the largest and most influential medical device companies in the United States (US).

Technically, the price bouncing off the lower range of an inclining linear regression channel pattern presents an attractive buying opportunity (see the larger insert on the main chart). The recent decline took the price below the regression line and the -2 standard deviation band. If this lower area holds, selling pressure may ease and the price could recover towards the -1 deviation band and then the rising regression line, near $360 to $365.

Recent volume activity also supports a bullish bias for the stock (see the smaller insert on the main chart). Weekly volume has stayed elevated since around April 2026, which points to stronger market participation and liquidity. If this activity accompanies a price recovery, it will help confirm buying interest.

The start of upside price momentum on the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) histogram, a developing trough in the Coppock Curve and the recent steep upward trajectory of the on-balance volume (OBV) indicator, also support our bullish view.

The price remains below both its 200-day and 200-week simple moving averages (SMAs), but the distance below these averages leaves scope for a mean-reversion rebound towards the 200-day SMA. A sustained move above it would provide stronger evidence of a trend reversal.

The company is set to deliver solid earnings growth momentum over the medium term, supported by healthy underlying demand and a robust pipeline.

Buy/sell rationale

Technical analysis:

    • The lower panel shows occurrences of the Relative Strength Index (RSI) backcross signal from oversold territory, meaning each time the RSI moves back above 30. These signals have clustered around 2022 and between 2025 to 2026, and the latest one suggests that selling pressure may be easing and short-term momentum turning upwards. Confirmation from higher lows, stronger volume or a break above resistance would make the signal more persuasive.
    • Our recommended entry range is $305 to $315, or as close as possible to $310.55. A drop below this range would indicate a substantial change in price dynamics, giving reason to negate the trade idea.
    • Our target price is $371, representing ~19.5% upside from current levels.
    • According to forward calculations of the RSI indicator, the share will be overbought at $410, making our profit target realistic.
    • Our proposed time to exit is the end of January 2027, a trade duration of approximately 12 weeks. Investors can adjust for a longer or shorter time horizon depending on price behaviour.
    • A drop below $290, or 6.6% below current levels, would suggest weakening technicals, and a stop-loss is recommended at this level. A move below $290 could trigger $266 and $235 as the next targets. We also recommend a trailing stop-loss of -3.3% should the stock move in our favour.
    • We expect moderate price fluctuations and suggest a medium at-risk allocation for this trade. Increase exposure for a break above $315.

Fundamental view:

    • Stryker is a diversified medical technology company with two main business segments - MedSurg and Neurotechnology (MNST; ~53% of revenue, includes patient handling, emergency care, clinical communication, and AI-enabled healthcare solutions) and Orthopaedics (~47% of revenue, which focuses on joint replacement implants, trauma and extremity products, and spinal systems used in the treatment of injuries and degenerative conditions).
    • The company has more than 25 company-owned and over 295 leased locations worldwide, including ~45 manufacturing locations. The US is Stryker's largest market, where it benefits from a strong hospital network, an ageing population, ongoing demand for advanced surgical technologies, and continued investment in healthcare innovation.
    • In terms of the digital hospital ecosystem, the SmartCare franchise which is built around Vocera and care.ai (acquired in late 2024) is an emerging high-conversion-margin growth driver within the Medical division, supporting clinical communication and AI-enabled healthcare solutions across acute-care settings.
    • In 3Q26 revenue grew 7.6% to $6.52 billion, but missed consensus by ~1.5%, while adjusted earnings per share (EPS) printed at $3.52 (+10.3%) versus consensus of $3.55 (+11.2%). Orthopaedics was the weak point, largely reflecting macro pressures on patient affordability (such as higher deductibles and insurance pre-authorization delays and temporary commercial friction from a massive SAP rollout. MSNT grew 9.1% organically, led by Endoscopy (+14%) and Medical (+9.8%).
    • After a challenging start to the second half, organic revenue growth was downwardly revised to between 6.5% and 7% (previously: 8.3% to 9.3%), and adjusted EPS was cut to between $14.80 and $14.90 (from $14.95 to $15.10). The guidance reset reflects slower Hip and Knee procedure volumes, Vascular supply constraints, and capital-equipment execution risk.
    • Stryker maintains a track record of strong free cash flow conversion, supporting both organic investment and M&A. The balance sheet provides capacity for continued bolt-on acquisitions in high-growth adjacencies, including peripheral vascular product portfolio expansion through Inari (acquired in early 2025).
    • As a multinational giant operating in the highly regulated healthcare sector, Stryker Corporation faces an array of operational, regulatory, macroeconomic, and strategic risks.
    • Leadership's rebound strategy into late FY26 and FY27 focuses on a robust pipeline of new product launches, resolving supply bottlenecks, clearing its strong capital equipment backlog, and driving a sales execution pivot under incoming CEO Spencer Stiles.
